DCSI Partners With Detroit Churches

Volunteers from Detroit Cancer Screening Initiative (DCSI) raised awareness about early cancer screening during a health fair for members of Perfecting Church in Detroit. This was one of a number of events hosted in 2023-2024 in Metro Detroit. African Americans are more likely to be impacted by late-stage cancer diagnosis due to disparities in health care and other factors. Churches and barber shops have been great venues to spread the word about affordable and accessible early screening.

Dr. Lawrence MacDonald, Chairman of DCSI, shares information on lung cancer screening with parishioner Tanisha Brown. African-Americans are disproportionately impacted by late diagnosis of cancer.
